Indiana Pacers star seeks sole custody of child

Indiana Pacers star, Paul George, is in the middle of a custody case regarding a 2-month-old child he may have fathered with a New York woman. The child’s mother had originally sought sole child custody primarily because of George’s travel schedule. If a paternity test reveals George is the father of the 2-month-old girl, court documents show he will seek sole custody. He feels shared parental responsibility would not be in the best interests of the child.

George lists several reasons he believes he is the best parent to care for the child daily, but he is willing to allow the mother limited parental time sharing with the child. He also wishes to move the trial to the state of Florida where the couple originally met. The trial has been postponed until the judge makes a decision on jurisdiction. One argument George used is the mother is unemployed and not seeking work, but her lawyer told the New York Post that is because she has a 2-month-old child.

George also requested the court provide the child’s mother with an amount less than the guidelines for child support in Florida if he is not awarded custody of the child. According to documents the child’s mother filed, a prenatal paternity test indicated there was a 99.9 percent probability George is the father of the baby, but he is seeking an additional test because he is somewhat skeptical about the methodology and accuracy that was involved in the prenatal test.

Custody cases can be very difficult for those in Connecticut. However, the parents need to rely on their lawyers to help them develop an agreement that is in the best interest of the child whether they are celebrities as the father in this case or just ordinary people.
